[ Translation from the husband's funeral oration ]
Dear relatives, dear friends,
The name Andrea can be translated from ancient Greek as "the Brave".
And brave she was.
Brave, …
when at the end the doctors told her that all avenues had been pursued;
during the many medical treatments she endured;
during the many times she had to be in hospital for weeks;
Brave, in 2007 during her second and in 2006 during her first liver transplantation;
Brave, when in 2005 the doctors told her of indications of liver cell carcinoma which together with
the aggravated liver cirrhosis led to the first liver transplantation;
Brave, in 2004 when she tried to treat her slipped disc the conservative way, but eventually had to
have the spinal operation in 2005.
Brave, …
when her father died in 2004;
when in 1997 the doctors told her that she had contracted Hepatitis B, which did prove itself wrong
later;
when in 1994 the doctors told her that she was suffering from chronic Hepatitis C with already
advanced liver cirrhosis;
and during 1986 to 1988 when she endured the therapies, complications and hospitalisations necessary
to be cured from Leukemia, only to contract an at the time unspecific form of Hepatitis.
But there were times of joy as well,
when in 1988 the doctors told her that she had essentially overcome Leukemia;
when in 1990 she graduated from grammar school with highest grades;
during her travels to Germany, Italy, the USA, Scotland, England, Malta, Tunesia, Crete, various
parts in Austria and Old Celtic, Roman and Middle Age fairs;
her wedding in 2000;
and her graduation as a Doctor of Medicine at the end of 2003.
She also took joy in the "small" things of life, like …
listening to music;
swimming;
sun bathing;
when her cat Pascha turned 20;
and watching the animals in the Zoo of Schoenbrunn.
And she had the courage and the will to live to the very end and was, as one of her doctors put it
at the end, a true fighter.

We weren't prepared that day,
When God called you away.
So many tears we cried,
Longing to keep you at our side.
How we loved and missed you so,
And weren't ready to let you go,
But it gives us comfort to know,
Within the twinkling of our eyes,
You entered into paradise.
A place with beauty beyond measure,
Eternal happiness and treasure,
Where you have no more pain or tears,
Nor sorrow, worries, and fears.
Although, for now, we are apart,
Your precious memories live in our heart,
Until God calls us each to heaven's door,
Where we'll be reunited, forever more
